Hi! I’m confused! I just bought a pack of white pitas at Publix- when I got home, I realized the sticker said Jun 14- today is June 20th… please let me know if these are ok to eat. Thank you very much!
Thanks for your comment. Toufayan Pita should be coded by the grocer for a 5-6 day shelf life when they display the product for sale. If they are soft and pliable, without any discoloration or mold, it is possible that the date code is incorrect. They will become stiff and rigid after the 5 day shelf life. As with most bread, even if it is a little stale it is still safe to eat and you can soften it up by sprinkling a few drops of water on it and heating it up (a few minutes in the oven or toaster oven is enough). Don’t eat it if you notice an unpleasant smell, significant discoloration, or any sign of mold.
I just purchased you pita bread today at Ingles, Cashiers, NC. They had big display none of packages had expiration codes? On the plastic clip that holds it closed reads BIJD1
How does one know how long this package will stay fresh?
Thanks for your feedback! We asked a representative to contact your grocer about it. Toufayan Pita are meant to be coded for a 5-6 day shelf life when they are placed on the sales floor.
Hi!
We love your wraps and have been purchasing them regularly from a local grocer (Coop – Fredericton NB Canada). They recently stopped putting “best before” date stickers on them – and told us to contact you with the code on the bag to find out their shelf life. Is that accurate? Is there an updated place to find that. I see from older comments the store should still be dating them.. thank you!
The code found on your package represents the batch and distributor location, it cannot be used to determine the best by date. The grocer is intended to apply the date code when they defrost our tortillas. Toufayan Tortillas have a 45 day shelf life. We’ll ask a representative to contact your store to make sure they are following the handling procedure.
Can I deep fry them?
Absolutely! Deep fried chimichangas sound great. Add browned/sauted fillings and seal the tortillas with toothpicks and carefully submerge them in hot oil. It’s not recommended to try to seal the tortillas with just butter or eggwash, because they are not raw and will probably open while cooking. Don’t overcrowd the oil and avoid splashing. As the tortillas darken, gently roll them over to cook the other side. Please send us your recipe or pics!
I just purchased gluten-free wraps, but there’s no date on them how do I decipher the code to know if they’re fresh? It says SL/45 14:07:42 535-22 01 1???
Hi Karen, thanks for your question. Toufayan Gluten-Free Tortilla Wraps have a 45 day shelf life. The number you are referencing is a not a date code, but a distribution and lot number. The date code is meant to be applied by the grocer when they move the product to the retail floor. Please tell us the store and location in which you purchased these wraps. If you have the opportunity, please let your grocer know that the product was missing its best by date.
Thank you, it was purchased at Food Lion #2111, Courtland, Va.
Same for Cost U Less in the Cayman Islands
Thanks Kelsie, we’ll have our rep contact the grocer.
Same for both the IGA’s in East Hampton and AMagansett, NY in Aug 2024
As far as allergens, specifically peanut, tree nut, and sesame, are the Toufayan Tortillas made in a facility that shares equipment with any of these allergens.
Thanks for your question, Allyson. Toufayan Tortillas are not made on equipment that also processes, peanuts, tree nuts, or sesame. The only allergen they contain is wheat. You can find all the ingredients and the allergen statement on this page. Always check the physical product’s packaging for the latest allergen and ingredient information.
how do I prepare soft taco style white tortillas? Bake ?
Hello Gary, thanks for your question.
Our Tortillas are ready to eat right out of the package. You can warm them up to enhance the flavor and increase pliability. A few seconds in the microwave covered with a slightly damp paper towel works well, or heat a saute pan with oil or butter and cook them on medium for a minute or two on each side.
Has Sprouts stopped carrying your gluten free wraps? Have not seen them for 3 weeks. Does any other sources in Phoenix area carry them. They are the best!!!
Thanks for your comment, Scott. Currently the Sprouts stores in your area are not carrying Toufayan Gluten Free wraps. Please ask your store manager to add them back in to their inventory. Meanwhile, you can order our Gluten Free wraps from our Amazon Store. The wraps there are only available in packs of three, however, you can always freeze unopened packages for up to eight months. Feel free to comment further if you have any other questions!
Hello,
I enjoy your pita bread but have the same issue understanding freshness date. Shouldn’t you be putting the freshness date on your end? As you said these items get shipped, and freshness has to be determined by considering when the product was baked not received. It’s a law in NYC that foods be dated. A reputable organization should be adhering to the food health/safety rules.
Hello Amy, thanks for your comment. Your grocer should apply the date code when they stock the product. Toufayan Tortillas should be coded for a 45 day shelf life. Please let us know which store you purchased our Tortillas from. Perhaps we can contact them directly.
Our Hearth Baked Pita Bread should be coded for a 5-6 day shelf life.
I came here to find out about expiration date and from some the comments I’ve read…I’m guessing that means my wraps are from February 2020? I’ll just stop buying these until there is an expiration date that can actually be read! I mean what the hell is this SL/45 01:17:33 282-20 OL 2
Hello Jae, thanks for reaching out. The code you reference is a distributor code, not a use-by date. Your grocer should apply the date code when they stock the product. Please let us know which store you purchased our Tortillas from. Perhaps we can contact them directly and help them with date codes.
Does the flatbed need to be refrigerated once opened
Thanks for your question, Leah. Toufayan tortillas do not need to be refrigerated, in fact we don’t recommend refrigerating any of our products (condensation makes bread products become stale very quickly). Store them sealed at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.
You can, however, freeze unopened packages for up to eight months. Frozen packages thaw at room temperature in about two hours.
Hello, sorry for the late reply but, the store I was purchasing the wraps from is Publix 9518 Argyle Forest Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32222.
Hello! What’s the best way to defrost your flour tortillas? They came frozen from my delivery grocer and when I thawed my first packet in the fridge, the tortillas stuck together a little
Thank you!
The best way to defrost our tortillas is at room temperature. Leave them on the countertop for a few hours.
Hello Jason,
It is up to each store manager to decide what products they wish to carry. We have found that some grocers have a tendency to stock certain products requested by local customers. Toufayan Bakeries ships to distributors who ship to your local supermarket. At this time, our facilities are not set up to ship individual cases or smaller orders across the nation, so reaching out to your local super market’s store manager is the most viable option at this time.
We are sorry about your experience. We hope you’ll try our Tortillas again. The date code is applied by your store manager. The code you reference seems like a distribution code. Please check with your grocer and let us know your findings. Where did you purchase your Tortillas?
Thanks again!
Where can I find toufayan product in west Oklahoma?
Thanks for your interest!
Both Crest and Reasor’s carry our products – but I don’t think either of them have many stores west of Woodward. Walmart carries our products, in Guymon and across the border in Liberal, KS.
Depending on which border you are near, you might be close to a BGC Brookshire, Brookshire Brothers, Fiesta, Grocer’s Supply, HEB, Kroger or Sprouts (Texas) or near a Balls Food Stores, HyVee or Cosentino’s (Kansas). Albertson’s carries our products in New Mexico, Texas and Kansas.
You can use our store finder for more details. Let us know if you still can’t find them, if you have any questions or where you end up getting them.
Hi,
I love your low carb high fiber wraps. i found them in NJ and bought about 10 packages. I’m running out and I want to know where I can get them in Northern CA near Berkeley or San Francisco. Anyone here carry them? Can you ship me some? Let me know. thanks!
Hello Steve and thank you for your endorsement!
I don’t see wraps in any California stores, but Albertsons, H Mart, Save Mart and Sprouts all carry our products in California. Check out our store finder for stores in your area that carry our products. Also, please ask your the manager at your favorite stores to add our products to their inventories!
Let us know if you still can’t find Toufayan products in your area.
Thanks again!
Hello, how i can read the date expiration on the wraps ??
Carlos,
Each grocer uses date codes of their own specification, please ask your store manager. Toufayan Tortillas have a one week shelf life in the pantry and up to three or four weeks in the refrigerator.
Where I live many supermarkets sell Toufayan wraps. No store manager understands anything about your expiration date and how they should handle. Please advise. I understand the wraps are send frozen to the supermarket and the box has a date. What date is it? And how long can you use the wraps after they have been befrosted? Also how long can you keep them frozen?
Hello Norman and thank you for your comment.
Toufayan Tortillas have a one week shelf life and can be extended to three or four weeks if sealed well and kept chilled. You can freeze tortillas and other bread products for up to 3 months. Toufayan Hearth Baked Wraps have a 45 day shelf life. The date code is meant to be applied by the grocer, as the shelf life begins after delivery. Please ask your grocer to contact us for more details or assistance.
Can you link me to the ingredients list on the Gluten Free wraps?
